We have an outstanding local and international reputation in this field and have been at the forefront of developing coronial law and practice for over 40 years. We have regularly represented bereaved families in high profile legal challenges both in the High Court and Court of Appeal in Belfast, the House of Lords and Supreme Court in London, and in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

Our successful legal challenges have resulted in landmark rulings, defining the obligations on police concerning disclosure of documentation to Coroners, the scope of inquests and form of verdicts which can be returned by Coroners and juries.  Further challenges have resulted in the compellability of members of security forces responsible for the use of lethal force at inquests to be subject to cross examination. We have particular expertise at inquests involving state agents and deaths in custody. Our firm has also successfully pioneered applications for new inquests in many legacy cases and we represent many bereaved families in civil actions against the State.
